Flu & COVID‑19 Vaccinations — NHS & Private

  • Adults 75+: eligible for a free combined NHS flu and COVID‑19 vaccination appointment. Care home residents are also included.
  • Adults 65+: eligible for a free NHS flu vaccine.
  • At‑risk adults 18–64: free NHS flu if you have certain long‑term conditions, are pregnant, a carer, live with someone severely immunocompromised, or live in long‑stay care.
  • Immunocompromised adults (18–74): eligible for a free NHS COVID‑19 vaccination.
  • New at Sharmans: In‑pharmacy flu vaccinations for children aged 2–3 (see details below).
  • Private flu & COVID‑19 vaccinations available for adults not eligible on the NHS.

Free NHS Flu Vaccine — Who's Eligible?

You can usually get a free NHS flu vaccine if any of the following apply:

Adults

  • Aged 65 years and over.
  • Aged 18–64 with certain long‑term health conditions (e.g., chronic heart, lung, kidney, liver or neurological disease; diabetes; BMI ≥40; severe mental illness).
  • Pregnant at any stage.
  • Living in a long‑stay residential care home.
  • Carers or those receiving a carer’s allowance.
  • Living with someone who has a severely weakened immune system.
  • Frontline health & social care staff.

Children & young people

  • All school‑age children (offered mainly via schools).
  • Pre‑school children aged 2 and 3 on 31 August 2025 — now available at Sharmans Pharmacy by appointment (see below).
  • Children aged 6 months to 17 years in a clinical risk group.

Service availability may vary by branch and stock. We will confirm eligibility and consent at booking.

Free NHS COVID‑19 Vaccine (Autumn 2025) — Who's Eligible?

For autumn 2025, the NHS offers COVID‑19 vaccination to people at highest risk of serious illness:

  • Adults aged 75 years and over (bookable together with flu in one appointment).
  • Residents in care homes for older adults.
  • Adults aged 18–74 with a weakened immune system due to a health condition or treatment.

Eligibility and timing are set nationally by the NHS/JCVI and may be updated. We will screen for eligibility at booking.

New: Children aged 2–3 flu vaccinations at Sharmans

About the appointment

  • Vaccine: Nasal spray (Fluenz Tetra) in most cases. An injected alternative is available if the spray is not suitable.
  • Who can book: Children aged 2–3 on 1st October 2025, subject to eligibility checks and parental/guardian consent.
  • What to bring: Child’s medication list and (if you have it) the Personal Child Health Record ("Red Book").
  • Duration: 10–15 minutes including post‑vaccination advice.

Before you book

  • Please tell us about egg allergy, severe asthma, or ongoing antiviral treatment for flu.
  • We’ll complete an NHS consent form on the day; a parent or legal guardian must attend.
  • Service availability may vary by branch; if slots are full, we’ll offer the next closest location.
